Now that we’ve shared some of our recipes, tutorials, and everyday “Mommy moments” with you all, I thought it would be a great time for everyone to get to know a little bit more about the five ladies behind Eight By Five. Kelley came up with a list of 20 interview questions for us to answer, but since 20 x 5 = 100 that makes for one really long interview. So, I chose a few of my favorites, and here’s how we answered:
1. What Nicknames Do You Call Your Kid(s)?
Kelley – Doodlebug, Z, BooBear, Birdie, Lovey…anything but her actual name, which I know is a problem!
Heidi – I call them all sorts of silly nicknames, but most often I use Soy/Soybean, Boo and Bubba.
Lesley – What don’t I call my kids Bubbie , Bugga, Bugga Boo, Hunny Bunny, Lovey Boo, Boo Boo Bear, Old Man, River Otter…
Kari – My husband and I have been calling him Pee Pot from the time he peed all over the room after bringing him home from the hospital. The name just stuck with him! Sorry Zane!
Jessica – Stelly, Stella Bella, Muffin, Honey. Any cute name that comes to my mind.
2. What’s Your Guilty Pleasure?
Kelley – Bad reality TV, the badder the better!
Heidi – Pinterest! I’m addicted!
Lesley – Eating brownie dough and watching a romantic comedy.
Kari – Shopping! I feel guilt for spending money on myself, however the stuff I buy brings me pleasure!
Jessica – I love me some sushi!
3. What’s the Best Advice You Got From Your Parents?
Kelley – My mom told me to marry someone who buys you flowers for no reason (I did!). I also like “He won’t buy the cow if he can get the milk for free” from my sweet Mother-in-law to my sister-in-law, Lisa
Lesley – To be myself.
Kari – From my mother who’s been married for over 30 years: “The secret to keeping your marriage alive is never letting them see you in sweatpants with no makeup on.” To this day, I can’t recall what my mother looks like without makeup — I think she wears it to bed!
Heidi – My mom also said that the key to a successful marriage is keeping your husband as your #1 priority. After having children, many parents tend to put the kids first, but you have to prioritize your marriage if you want to keep yourself in a successful partnership. Happy Mommy & Daddy = Happy Family!
Jessica – Do what makes you happy, because no one else is living your life like you are.
4. What Was the First Concert You Attended?
Kelley – Mine might be the most embarrassing (but I blame it on the rain) – Milli Vanilli…really.
Heidi – I totally blame it on the fact that I won tickets at 1 am on the radio (hey, I was 15!), but it was *coughMichaelBoltoncough*
Lesley – New Kids on the Block.
Kari – I saw Cake when I was in 8th grade. The biggest concert I attended was the Up In Smoke Tour with Dr. Dre and Eminem (please don’t ever tell my son that)!
Jessica – Blink 182/Greenday/Jimmy Eat World with my sister, Heidi, and her hubby.
5. What’s Your Secret for Quieting Down Your Kid(s)?
Kelley – Bringing my 1-year-old outside usually does the trick.
Heidi – Food is always my go-to answer. I have three boys, and they love to eat! It’s a good thing they all have high metabolisms! Going outside also works wonders when they’re getting antsy and starting to pick on each other.
Lesley – A routine. When they know what to expect at the end of the day it makes it easier on kids and mom.
Kari – Just feed them! Keeps the mouth pre-occupied.
Jessica – My 4-year-old is always on the go, but we can usually calm down with some cuddles and a cute movie.
6. What’s on Your iPad/Kindle?
Kelley – Bringing up Bebe and 50 Shades of Grey (nice combo right?).
Heidi – I just finished reading Amanda Soule’s Handmade Home: Simple Ways to Repurpose Old Materials into New Family Treasures. I’m a huge fan of repurposing things.
Lesley – Young adult fiction novels! That could also go under my guilty pleasure question.
Kari – The Help and Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy. I’m not much of an avid reader unless it’s People Magazine.
Jessica – Netflix and kids games.
